BANGKOK, 16th August 2018 (NNT) – The Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister, ACM Prajin Juntong, said Thai authorities arrested some 3,000 drug dealers and seized 645 million amphetamine pills over the past 10 months, a figure higher than the previous four years.
ACM Prajin chaired a board meeting of the National Narcotics Control Management Center on Thursday (Aug 16th), after which he revealed the overall narcotics situation over the past 10 months.
The Justice Minister said the anti-drugs operations in Thailand, especially the multi-national Safe Mekong Operation, have blocked the smuggling of chemicals used for producing narcotics, arrested some 3,000 key drug dealers, confiscated 463 million amphetamine pills, 18 tons of crystal meth powder, seven tons of heroine, 35 tons of cannabis, and 1,178 tons of chemicals used for the production.
The authorities have also arrested more key dealers than four years ago prior to the current administration by 19 percent.
Regarding the rehabilitation program for drug users, ACM Prajin said it is being offered at some 10,000 public hospitals nationwide. The program covers community hospitals while young children are being taught to have the immunity against drug use from nursery stage, with some 3.1 million children received this training.
The meeting has also considered the draft management plan addressing drug issues for 2019-2022, which is a long-term plan specially for the drugs issues in Thailand's northern border.
