Suicide at Criminal Court identified as father of murder victim

    Nation
A man jumped to his death on Monday morning from the eighth floor of a Bangkok Criminal Court building after seeing the suspect in his son’s murder acquitted.

Supachai Kanlahasunthorn came to the court at 9am to hear the verdict in the trial of a man accused of stabbing Supachai’s son to death in April 2016.

Supachai broke down in tears after the judge read the verdict acquitting the defendant at 10am.

Leaving the courtroom, he climbed through a hall window onto a terrace, over a wall, and then jumped to his death in the car park of court officials.

In the case, Supachai's son was stabbed to death on the night of April 15, 2016 on Prachasongkroh road in Bangkok’s Din Daeng district.

The court ruled that evidence and testimony from defence witnesses undermined the charges, while the prosecution lacked strong evidence.

After Supachai jumped, his sister-in-law rushed downstairs to see the body.

She broke into tears and had to be helped by officials into the court building to calm down.

She claimed that her nephew did not receive justice, prompting her brother-in-law to commit suicide.

She said the murder incident should have been recorded on security cameras, but the owners claimed the cameras had broken down.

Whether or not a travesty of justice took place, I can not say. Nonetheless, a tragedy did occur. So very sad to hear of a bereaved dad driven to take his own life.
One has to wonder how the judge feels now, and the owner of the CCTV camera.

Those that work can be very reliable when needed, and also when not.

Wouldn't for a moment suggest anything improper, though baths do tend to ease residual guilt.

^ Yes, really, Ben. 15 years for an old peasant couple for picking wild mushrooms, zero minutes for untold celebrities and rich people for anything from drug use, through to cop killing. Kids of cops kill a handicapped guy...a bit of publicity and none of the murderers do much time, if any, at all.
Where have you been so as not to be aware of these multitude of injustices. Daily injustices. Thai "justice" is dependant on your name and your parents and your wealth.
WRT the OP, I'll place a wager that the murder victim's family were nobodies, and the suspected murderer was someone at least a little higher in the wealth or reputation scale.

I'd be more inclined to take justice into my own hands than take my own life.

Indeed, gotta agree. However, maybe we feel we have some control over things, others maybe not.

But like you say, i would not be the one dead on the floor in a similar situation. Whatever the price.

    Absolutely.
Also, just as an aside, if I was ever terminally ill, if I was able I'd end it early but take some scum with me. E.g suicide by cop after taking out a pedo.

Won't be any takers on your wager, at least none that's been in Thailand longer than a wide-eyed tourist.

Wouldn't be the first time, and justified where the guilty is released by a thoroughly corrupt system, though from the moment of judicial pardon he would be whisked away from possible retribution. Then a few baht to the local temple to buy ample indulgence.

for over 3 decades nothing never ceases to amaze me,yesterday it was reported [bkk.post] that the police had a open and shut case and were certain of a conviction of one of the 2 charged with the killing, the hearing at the court was ready to deliver its verdict, this killing took place over 2yrs.april 2016.
but the defendant didn't turn up at court.hang on headhunter what do you mean?he didn't turn up,well the judges wernt told, the police wernt told and the family of the victim wernt told,TOLD WHAT? the defendant was in bed at a hospital with a mental problem.AMAZING THAILAND.
so how many more lives must be lost? through INCOMPETENCE.
