Here's something that has just emerged.

The EU divers who made first contact with the 13 Wild Boars actually encountered another group of 4 stranded Thais on their way through the cave system - and rescued them first

Who's whining you old curmudgeon? I made some statements that turned out to be true but got pilloried for them. It's fair enough to point that out.

have to feel sorry for those kids. they'd have been better off with a thick ear than all the hyp they're going threw now. IMO they are being abused.

Yes I'm sure they feel abused. The look of fear is all over their little faces.

But you're right in a way, they need to rein it in. At this rate there will be kids *trying* to get trapped in caves for a chance to meet Zlatan, go on free trips, etc.

TrueVisions will broadcast an interview given by the Mu Pa (Wild Boars) footballers as guests of the Ellen DeGeneres Show on Monday.

The show’s host posted on her Facebook page on Saturday that the team will be appearing on her programme on Monday.
DeGeneres said in her post: “There was no story more captivating this summer than the Thai soccer team trapped in a cave.”

She also posted a picture of herself with all the 13 Mu Pa team members, wearing what appeared to be Ellen-brand football jerseys at the show’s California studio.

Also seated on the sofa with them was Swedish football star Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the former Manchester United player and now LA Galaxy forward.

^^ Ellen is famous for her largesse. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if all the boys walk away with a very handy scholarship or other endowment.
    I hope so.

Thailand has granted citizenship to the coach and three members of a football team dramatically rescued from a flooded cave last month.
During their ordeal, it emerged that the boys and their coach were among around 480,000 stateless people living in the south-east Asian country.
It prompted calls to fast-track their citizenship applications.
The four were part of a 13-strong team, known as the Wild Boars, who became trapped deep in a cave on 23 June.

Maybe they should consider going and getting trapped in a cave. The first few might fast track it before the authorities catch on.

    Here it is.
My Thai is not so good so perhaps someone can clarify something. When Ellen asked if it took 5 hours to get out, the coach said no, but one person went every half an hour. The translator then says, as if translating, that it took 8 hours for each kid.

The coach says, "less than 5 hours" (ไม่ถึงห้าชั่วโมง) but the translator says "about 8 hours actually" followed by "8 hours each". The coach doesn't say that in the video. It seemed to be the translator's opinion or belief rather than a translation of what the coach said, unless of course, they cut some of what he said out of the video.

That's what I thought. Official line (I assume she's travelling with the boys), or a marketing/sensationalising of it?

Thai cave rescue boys watch Manchester United beat Everton at Old Trafford

The 12 members of a Thai football team who were trapped in a cave in northern Thailand for almost three weeks were guests at Manchester United's 2-1 over Everton in the English Premier League.

It has been three months since the 12 boys and their coach spent 18 days in a cave in northern Thailand after flooding left them trapped inside, with the situation and subsequent rescue mission attracting attention from around the world.

The group met United manager Jose Mourinho at the club's Carrington training ground on Saturday before cheering the Red Devils on to a 2-1 win over the Toffees.

The boys posed for pictures in the dressing rooms with some of the club's most famous players including Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial, Ander Herrera and Ashley Young.
