    Pineapple growers in Chaiyaphum receive assistance

    CHAIYAPHUM, 11th June 2018 (NNT) – The Thai army bought a large amount of pineapples from farmers in Chaiyaphum province in an effort to address the recent pineapple price slump.

    The Governor of Chaiyaphum, Narong Wunsiew, said many pineapple growers have been affected by a decline in the pineapple prices, and the government has instructed relevant agencies to closely monitor the situation and quickly find a solution to the issue.

    On Monday (June 11th), a group of farmers in Chaiyaphum organized a ceremony to release trucks carrying tons of pineapples to the 2nd Army Support Command. In addition, the public and private sectors have purchased over 130 tons of from farmers in the northeastern province.

    Meanwhile, the Governor of Nakhon Ratchasima, Wichian Chanthonnothai, who previously served as the Govenor of Chaiyaphum, has instructed officials in Nakhon Ratchasima to help buy more pineapples in Chaiyaphum. Initially, four tons of pineapples have already been purchased by the officials in Nakhon Ratchasima.

    130 tons = c25-30% of current daily (national) production, but better than nothing.

    What's the gov doing for rice farmers? Will they pledge to buy for reasonable bahts? Then they can store it and wait for the global price to rise and sell at a profit.
