BMA installing drainage system in flood-prone areas

BANGKOK, 9th June 2018 (NNT) The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is installing drains and water pumping machines in flood-prone areas across the capital city.

Bangkok Governor Pol Gen Asawin Kwanmuang this week led a team of BMA officials to inspect the installation of water drains and pumping machines on Sukhumvit Road, Bang Na Canal, Phut Anan Stadium, and Bearing BTS station. These areas are said to be at risk of flooding when it rains according to the governor.

The installation will enable these areas to drain 6 centimeters of flood waters within the first thirty minutes as opposed to three hours.

He added that pumping machines will also be installed at Bang Khen Roundabout, Chang Wattana Road, Phaholyothin Road, and Ratchadaphisek Road, while ordering all BMA offices to keep abreast of weather forecasts and excess water situations.

The governor believes Bangkok will have fewer flood-prone areas by next year.

Bet they've never heard of Pattaya, it's by the sea, and floods could be avoided with a few pipes laid in the right direction.

    He may be right.

You'd think after decadces of flooding experience they might have it sussed and realise that filling in many of the old canals was a scatterbrained and stupid thing to do.

    There ya go, Pat.
I guess there are a few of us that realize that you can't cement over centuries-old klong systems, less attempting to do the same upon a natural flood plain.
