700 stores across the nation to offer 50% cheaper household items in June

BANGKOK, 24 May 2018 (NNT) - More than 700 retail and wholesale stores will offer up to 50% discounts on household items under the Ministry of Commerce’s new campaign to shoulder the cost of living for Thais.

The campaign will be carried out from June 25th -30th and August 11th-15th at selected stores across the country, offering up to 50% discount on everyday goods. Around 500 million baht of cash flow can be expected during these periods.

Meanwhile, Commerce Minister Sontirat Sontijirawong said in response to public concerns over rising food prices that the recent cooking gas price hike can only increase the cost of ready-to-eat meals by no more than 20 satang per dish according to his calculation.

In light of higher diesel prices, the Department of Internal Trade will closely monitor commodity prices nationwide to see if there is a significant impact on consumers. Manufacturers of various goods have also been invited to a meeting on Friday to discuss with commerce officials over the matter.
