Office of Buddhism signs memorandum to promote temples as community centers

BANGKOK, 16 May 2018 (NNT) - Thailand's National Office of Buddhism has signed a memorandum with educational institutions to promote the temple as a community center for learning.

Phra Phrom Muni, of the Sangha Supreme Council of Thailand, and Minister Attached to the Prime Minister's Office, Suwaphan Tanyuwatthana, signed a memorandum under which temples are to be community role models of sufficiency, sanitation, orderliness, self-improvement and discipline.

The agreement also calls for monks to promote their temples as centers of the community. The initiative will be piloted in 1,500 temples, before being rolled out to the rest of the country next year.
