BANGKOK, 9th May 2018 (NNT) - The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) has allowed 19 political groups to convene meetings, in preparation for the re-establishment of political parties.

Since March, 101 political groups have registered with the Election Commission of Thailand (EC) to form political parties. Of 61 groups that have already submitted letters asking for permission to organize party meetings, 19 including Palang Tham and Future Forward Parties have been given a green light. All political groups are required to obtain approval from the NCPO before they can conduct any political activities including meetings.

Meanwhile, in response to an activist group's demand for an election, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha said there is a roadmap in place for the national polls.

The group has called for the NCPO to step down and asked for a general election to be held by November this year.

Secretary-General of the National Security Council Gen Wallop Raksanoh has urged the activist group not to break any laws and expressed his belief that the situation would remain under control.
