Unidentified foreigner found handcuffed, hanged in burned house in Sattahip

    March 29, 2018
    By The Nation

An unidentified white man was found hanged from a water tank platform inside the compound of a Sattahip house that had been burned to the ground early Thursday.

Police and fire officials were alerted to a fire at a house on Soi Sattahip Sukhumvit 13 in Moo 4 village in Chon Buri's Sattahip district.

When firefighters arrived, the blaze had already engulfed the entire Thai traditional wooden house in a fenced two-rai (0.3-hectare) plot. Firefighters took about two hours to put out the blaze, but it had destroyed the entire house and damaged a nearby pickup truck and motorcycle.

Police and firefighters then found the body hanged from the platform of a water tank about three metres from the house.

The hands of the man, who appeared to be in his 40s, were handcuffed behind his back and he had been hanged by a nylon rope.

A handwritten message was written on a side of the water tank in English, stating that a Thai woman and her family had “stolen everything” from the man, including his daughter. "Now, you have all exactly what you wanted," the note read.

Police are trying to identify the man by locating people who may have known him.

    Perhaps.

I'd probably be more compassionate for the young daughter left behind.

Anyway, RIP, hopefully he's in a better more peaceful place now.

Certainly looks that way. All too familiar story, and maybe we get cynical hearing it over again. RIP.

    It sound's like you're suggesting an arson-suicide.

Sounds like a cuckolding to me, and the murderer/arsonist is a cuckolded farang.

For him, and why he killed himself, the writing was on the wall.

Firefighters took about two hours to put out the blaze
About the time it might take to put out a blazing skyscraper elsewhere.

    In Thailand...one wooden house.

Without a doubt. Easy enough to climb up, put a rope around yer neck, handcuff yourself behind your back and then jump.

Initial thoughts being:- somewhat of a drama queen! punctuation excellent under stress though!
"two-rai (0.3-hectare) plot" Good of them to be factual with the land size! what happened to the other .02 hectares though?
"Easy enough to climb up, put a rope around yer neck, handcuff yourself behind your back and then jump." We need a volunteer to prove the feasibility, OP?

However, the word "and" was written as "an".

And I have to wonder how and why he would have handcuffed himself (I know other posters have given possible reasons for that but I find them hard to believe). He would also have to obtain some handcuffs. Perhaps a video will emerge showing him buying some somewhere, or perhaps other clues will emerge wrt the handcuffs.

Revenge for the wife? Can't live in the house when it is burned down. And add to that the ghost of the dead man.

i noticed that too, and immediately thought it could have been written by someone else....perhaps his murderer.

    but two points:

    1. has the deceased been identified as a native speaker of english? the last line is not grammatically accurate.
    2. he could have been intoxicated and highly emotional....which could lead to these type of errors

if it was a suicide, then absolutely a possibility.

what does the law say.....would the wife get an insurance payout if the dead man set the house on fire?

Maybe he hand cuffed himself to cause to trouble for the Thai family.

Feel for the daughter, he should have fought for her.

Poor bloke couldn't see the wood for the trees, RIP.
