AYUTTHAYA, 26th March 2018 (NNT) - Throngs of people have visited the old city of Ayutthaya, thanks to the popularity of the ongoing period drama ‘Bupphesanivas,’ prompting the Ministry of Culture to consider extending the opening hours of the province’s famous historic Chaiwatthanaram Temple.
Many visitors regularly make their way to Chaiwatthanaram Temple, one of the historic landmarks of Ayutthaya province. They are often seen donning traditional Thai costumes and taking photographs with the venue’s spectacular landscape as background.
Traditional Thai costume rental shops have reported a jump in revenue, with daily income of several thousand baht. The demand for traditional dresses has skyrocketed, prompting the service providers to increase their supplies.
The period drama also bolsters the number of visitors to the temple. The latest survey found that more than 12,000 people visit the venue daily, a massive leap from an average 1,000 visitors a day last year.
In response, the Ministry of Culture is considering extending the opening hours of Chaiwatthanaram Temple from 8am - 6.30pm to 6am to 9pm on weekends. If the proposal is approved, the new hours will start at the beginning of next month.
More officials will be dispatched and more lights will be installed to facilitate the arrival of the increasing number of visitors.
