Pattaya to be developed as "Tourism for All" city

CHON BURI, 1st March 2018 (NNT) - Chon Buri and relevant organizations have collaborated to develop Pattaya as a city of "Tourism for All," by constructing facilities for the elderly and persons with disabilities.

The Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (Public Organization) and the Friendly Design For All Foundation, on Thursday launched a project to develop tourist sites under the concept of Tourism for All in Pattaya and its region. The idea is to help everyone, regardless of their age and physical ability, to travel conveniently and safely. The concept of friendly design will be used to develop the tourist sites.

Minister of Tourism and Sports, Weerasak Kowsurat, and Minister of Transport Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, jointly presided over the opening ceremony of the project in the province.

Eighteen organizations in both the public and private sectors signed an MoU on the establishment of Tourism for All tourist sites in the resort city.

That is just plain silly and it shows once again how backward the whole country is.

...coming up with pronounceable acronyms for these important organizations is a challenge, but I'll have a go: DEASTA(PO) and FRIEDFORA...

Been reading this sort of BS since I first went there 25 years ago, back then it was going to be a family resort. It's an open air brothel and always will be

Should be the aspiration for a whole country, not just for tourists in a shihole.

The PM will probably deny the existence of elderly or disabled Thai.

Pattaya has come a long way in recent years, I moved there in 97 and enjoyed it for 15 years, it gets a lot of negative publicity due to the mile or so off bars that some people love to attend!
There are a lot of people that live outside of Pattaya who never go to this area and live a normal life - as normal as normal can be in this strange world we live in!
A lot of people go to Pattaya for golf, there are around 35 first class golf courses & also a lot of first class resorts, lets not forget the Chinese they are everywhere, apart from bars.
The bar industry is largely not taxed, I can foresee them shutting down a lot of the bar areas in future years and replacing them with "taxable' assets?

Perhaps you've never seen those stickers on all the bottles, the absence of which will get you in hot water.

Phuket is the model 'Corruption-Free Province', so there could be real potential for Pattaya with this.

Just another attempt to camouflage what Pattaya really is. The Thais are good at deflecting the truth.

...actually, they're not: that's what makes them so much fun...denying the obvious and daring anyone to claim it isn't so is practically the national sport...

Going on another forums Pattaya section it's a never ending listing of robberies, suicides, beatings, falling off balconies, drug busts, ferries sinking and scams of one sort or another. Can't remember the last time there was anything positive mentioned about the place. Looking at the various vlogs done by ex Pats is enough to turn anyone off the place, one recent review was of the 'shagwell Hotel' such class. They have thrown up one or two interesting places like the Rome Karaoke and whats the other place Red something, great looking places. The town itself remains an appallingly planned increasingly traffic jammed hole. Do they still pump the shit straight out into he sea? probably. Bars are taxed heavily- by the cops and local politicians.

I said 'largely not taxed' sure the beer/spirits are taxed, you reckon the profit on the beer and spirits, the bar fines & the staff salaries are taxed as well?

Have you been there and ventured outside off the beach road area, its a big city people's opinions are based on what in reality is probably less than 1% off Pattaya.
I don't really care what people think of Pattaya, it does have some positives, gets old when people are just jumping on the negativity --- its hard to read anything good about anywhere these days in truth, happiness doesn't sell?
"Appallingly planned" yep - just like every other Thai city, have you been to one that is well planned, Pattaya was great 25 years ago, then it filled up! no forethought! greed & corruption always the winners in Thailand.

When the apologists and residents try to defend the dump they always point to places outside of the Town, those places have never been the issue. The large ex pat community and visitors are largely there for cash for gash, or ass, that's how it grew up and that's what sustains it, not golf, go carting or fishing. There nothing wrong with that, but the authorities continuing to pretend it's going to be developed into some sort of decent resort is a laughable fantasy.

I don't see as they are different from any other small business or taxpayer in that regards.

Probably true ~3 million Thais pay taxes - the other 64 million don't! especially those with business that deal in cash.

As an ex resident and non apologist, we obviously frequent different places and see life a little differently.

From my experience, most of the expat residents live there for the weather, the lack of smoke in burning season, cost of accomodation, easy access to Western entertainment, food and media, golf and so on.

The dirty whores are for tourists and Thais.

Of course there is an overlap, but that's my general impression.

The Thais seem to think they can turn it into a gigantic Sandals resorts. Dream on you dumb chimps.

Funny how the expats congregate in Pattaya and not up the road in Bang Sean, which has a far better beach. Must be all those golf courses, or maybe other holes are the attraction

Have you ever considered they may work in the area?

    Children in schools?

An open and pretty much organised environment with clean air to live in?
