TAK, 14 February 2018 (NNT) – The Department of Highways is expediting the Tak - Mae Sot highway project which is likely to be completed in 2019.

Highways Department Director-General Thanin Somboon said three-fourths of the expansion project on Highway No.12 between Tak - Mae Sot has been completed.

The 86-kilometer-long Tak - Mae Sot highway will have four lanes of traffic. The asphalt and concrete highway is scheduled to be completed in 2019.

That stretch will be connected to the first and second Thailand-Myanmar friendship bridges across Moei River, which will promote the connectivity between the East Economic Corridor and the Western Economic Corridor. The expanded highway will also promote tourism opportunities, he said.

Tak province is viewed as Thailand's western gateway to the ASEAN Economic Community and houses a Special Economic Zone project on the Thailand-Myanmar border.
