Five British men arrested for 'pornographic dancing' in Cambodia
The men are among 10 people being held in Cambodia after they were arrested as they manned a barbecue at a house party.
Five British men are being held in Cambodia for what officials have called "pornographic dancing".
The men are among a group of 10 - including two women, who range in age from 19 to 35 - arrested as they manned a barbecue at a party in a villa on Thursday in Siem Reap.
They have been told they could be jailed for up to a year and could also face six months in detention waiting for the case to go to trial.
Cambodian police released images online appearing to show clothed and laughing tourists, some in sexually suggestive positions.
But one of the group, who spoke under condition of anonymity, said none of the people in the photos are those arrested and they are confused by the situation.
They said: "Honestly, it was really confusing. Everyone was confused. They raided, rounded us up - there was about 80 to 100 people at this party, some of them were tourists. There were about 30 of them [police officers]."
One of the group vomited in shock as they were taken away.
The prisoner added that they were being treated well and had even been bought pizza by the guards.
They have been assigned a Cambodian lawyer and are due in court later today.
The group arrested confirmed their identities and police have released a photo of the group. They include five British men; Vincent Harley Robert Hook, 35, Daniel Richard Leeming Jones, 30, Thomas Alexander Jeffries, 22, Billy Stevens, 21, and Paul Francis Harris, 32.
The other members of the arrested group include Job Robertus van der Wel, from The Netherlands, 22, Canadians Jessica Drolet, of Ottawa, 25, and Eden Koazoleas, 19, of Alberta, David Nikolaus Aleksandr Ballovarre, of Oslo, Norway, 22, and Paul Martin Brasch, 32, of New Zealand.
A statement from the Cambodian police referenced pornography and dancing in publicising the arrests, and said the 10 people had been charged following an investigation by the Office Combating Human Trafficking and Protection of Juveniles.
The families of the detainees are said to be "worried sick".
The prisoner added: "Our parents are doing what they can. It's really just trying to keep a good vibe until we know the outcome."
The prisoner explained they think the arrests may have been linked to the targeting of tourists and expats wearing bikinis in public and taking part in pub crawls in Siem Reap.
"We're innocent," they said. "We don't know why we've been arrested - we're getting different stories from different people."

Foreigners arrested for ‘porn dancing’ in Siem Reap

Ten foreigners have been arrested in Siem Reap for organising what officials have described as “porn dancing” at a venue in the tourist town, which another 77 foreigners took part in.
Human trafficking police in cooperation with immigration police in Siem Reap province made the raid on Thursday.
According to a report by the Siem Reap provincial police, at about 4pm on Thursday, Siem Reap provincial anti-human trafficking and juvenile protection police cooperated with provincial immigration police and conducted the raid in Siem Reap city’s Svay Dangkum commune.
After the raid, in which a number of used condoms were seized, officials took 87 foreigners to police headquarters for questioning and to educate them. Provincial deputy prosecutor Theng Samnang led the raid.
“This villa, where events called Pub Crawl or Let’s Get Wet took place, was rented by foreign tourists who went there to drink and take part in sexy porn dances. The organisers required customers pay from $10 to $15 each for one time,” the report said, adding that among the 87 foreigners, 77 were tourists who were educated and let go, while another 10 foreigners – five British nationals, two Canadians, one Norwegian, one New Zealander and one from the Netherlands – were detained and charged.
Pictures of the parties on Facebook showed dressed couples simulating sex in a crowded room.
Chea Kimsan, Siem Reap’s deputy provincial police chief in charge of immigration, said his men had cooperated with the ant-human trafficking and juvenile protection police in this case.
“Ten of the foreigners were arrested and were sent to the provincial court for questioning,” said Mr Kimsan.

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia has arrested 10 foreigners for "singing and dancing pornographically", police said Sunday (Jan 28), as the kingdom cracks down on racy behaviour at popular tourist sites.
The group, which could face up to a year in prison on pornography charges, was due in court this morning after police made the arrests Thursday at a villa in Siem Reap, the town connected to Cambodia's famed ancient ruins of Angkor Wat.
Duong Thavry, chief of the Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Department in Siem Reap, told AFP that some of those arrested were expats and others were tourists who had been in the country for several months.
"We cracked down on them because they committed activities that are against our culture," she said.
Cambodia's national police said on its website that authorities had arrested six British nationals, two Canadians, one New Zealander and one defendant whose citizenship was not identified.
All were arrested for "singing and dancing pornographically", the police said in the weekend post, which showed photos of pairs simulating various sexual positions at a party.
Several people in the lewd images, however, do not appear in the group shot of the 10 defendants later posted by the police. Authorities said dozens of tourists were let go after being informed of their inappropriate actions.
Britain's Foreign Office said in a statement that it was in contact with the British nationals arrested in Cambodia, though it said the number was five, not six.
Tourists visiting Angkor Wat normally stay in Siem Reap, which has a number of hotels and late-night bars and clubs. In recent years, authorities have clamped down on visitors posting revealing images of themselves at the nearby temple sites and in 2016, management said it would bar tourists wearing skimpy clothes.
The Angkor Archeological Park, a world heritage site, contains the remains of the different capitals of the Khmer Empire, dating from the 9th to the 15th centuries.
It is Cambodia's most popular tourist attraction, receiving millions of visitors each year.
