Children should be sedated and stowed away in some compartment or other, preparatory to long journeys on public transport.

^You can't elbow a bag of sausages in the head.

There was a scruffy indian family 2m away on the Muscat-Bkk flight last month. Their baby was similarly raising hell by crying continuously. But I wear industrial ear plugs so I didn't give a shit.

All the other passengers, mainly similarly scruffy Indians, north Africans and Arabs seemed oblivious to the din.

Meh, young children will scream and cry. The only responsible, mature and adult thing to do is drop a couple of sleepers and knock back some grog and embrace the grasp of sweet Morpheus. Will be pretty ticked off though if my flight back to the UK in April is the baby express, I'm paying to turn left to beat the horrendous rates to ship my stuff back to blighty. Factoid: DHL Myanmar is a total bloody rip off.

Best industrial earplugs = Blu Tack. Actually stays in place without sticking. And you can push it in quite deep.

For me, normal earplugs have a habit of working themselves loose easily.

Was that with the cheapest airline available , the one with the 20 hour stop over in Muscat and a five hour stop over in Bhagdad?

I found the best earplugs recently in a Boots in Thailand. They are apparently silicone, but seem like wax. Blocks out most noise, and they are way better than any other earplug I've tried.

The driver of the bus should be suspended for his actions imo. Babies cry, get over it. He shouldn't drive a bus if he has that much of a problem with it.

I do believe that the drivers have been sacked and the family have been given the money back, that they spent and the bus company may face further charges , duty of care issues

No. Oman air only dumps you in Muscat for 2hrs. I got use of the lounge away from the Bkk-bound quality tourist riffraff.

You could save 30 quid and do 12hrs in Muscat though.

Years back I knew many that would give an unruly kid a spoonful of cough syrup. Knock the little Fkr out.

In the end it boils down to poor parenting and how to determine why the child is crying and take the necessary actions. I have seen some rude parents who do not care figuring everyone will understand. I flew with my 2 very young daughters (2.5 and 8 monrhs). The 8month went into a cry. Firstly I apolofized to the people around me. Most understood. I got up and took her to the bathroom until she basically exhausted herself and crashed.

Shit happens with litrle children but the parents own it. Other paying patrons should not have to endure hours on hours of crying. The parents should have asked to get off.

JPPR2 - You do make some good points, but the people paid to take that bus and should be able to go the distance. I for one, can't stand crying babies on airplanes, so I bring good earplugs. Some parents are good and will take the crying baby to the bathroom, but sometimes you just can't help it.

Wax ones from boots are the beat, sponge ones are crap and silicone break up, have them in all the time. Keep thinking i'll get an infection or go deaf, not so far

lots of Shitters on a plane. Most would rather wait a few minutes versus hearing a child ring one out at the top of their lungs.

I Agree to a point. Patrons should not have to load up with ear protection to compensate for a parents (s) that can't reel their child in. I don't mind a few minutes or so and a committed effort to settle the little one down but from this report sounded like the lil grunion wouldn't shut up. I have been on many a lonnng bus ride here in Thailand and there is nowhere to hide. At least on a big wide body plane you can escape to another area for awhile or ask the stewardess for some ear plugs. I do however want to say I have Bose Noise canceling head set and I can tune it all out..

I need a pair of those noise cancellation headphones.
The solution could be to have a bus called Babies R US, just for parents and babies under a certain age. This may solve the problem for some of us.

I recommend the Q35. Outstanding and Bluetooth....

That would be a great idea. Actually have adult only bus tickets. Like no children under 12 or whatever. I usually do the redeye bus treks when I have done them so people sleep all night. I was on the train from Southern Thailand back to BKK. I was in the sleeper car. There was a Mom with 2 lil grunions. One would not go to sleep. Kept running up and down the aisle way banging on stuff. Finally the Thai server gal told him ENOUGH and he went to bed. Mom was doing nothing to control him figuring everyone would just accept it.....

Elbow in the head is what some of these unruly kids need. Including in the civilised west, where groups of women who have kids allow them to cry or run around, citing that they are 'growing up really fast' and are 'expressing themselves' each time they disturb every other customer who is expected to smile and say 'aaah so cute' when really they detest them and wish they would get run over by a steamroller.

You can't say shit because they went through chilbirth thus feeling empowered and entitled

Although the parents need an elbow in the head, moreso than the kids
