BANGKOK, 8th January 2018 (NNT) - The Royal Thai Police have collaborated with Chulalongkorn University's Innovation Hub and its Technopreneurship and Innovation Management Program in handing out 300 nano-coated helmets to motorcycle taxis in Pathumwan district, to help limit the spread of disease.
The activity was held to encourage the use of helmets, especially on motorcycle taxi rides. Up to 65 percent of all road accident fatalities in Thailand involve motorcycles.
Deputy Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police Pol Gen Weerachai Songmetta said today that despite past campaigns, the rate of helmet compliance remains substandard, due in part to the stigma associated with helmets often seen as being uncomfortable and unhygienic.
Therefore, Assistant Rector for Academic Affairs Naebboon Hoonchareon says that Chulalongkorn University has collaborated with Prime Nanotechnology Company Limited to introduce nano-coated helmets. The treated helmets reduce the accumulation of pathogens and unpleasant odors, as a way of reversing the reputation of helmets as being unsanitary.
