BANGKOK, 19 December 2017 (NNT) – The Treasury Department plans to mint new coins under the reign of King Rama X.

Treasury Department Director-General Patchara Anuatasilpa said the new coins marking the reign of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun will be minted under royal approval and in accordance with the Money Act BE 2501.

That will call for the manufacturing of 10 categories of coins, including 10-baht coins, 5-baht coins, 2-baht coins, 1- baht coins, 50-satang coins, 25-satang coins, 10-satang coins, 5-satang coins, and 1-satang coins.

The 1-, 5-, and 10-satang coins will not be used in regular circulations, but will be minted as commemorative coins. The details of the minting process is being proposed for the approval by the cabinet.

The existing coins will remain valid in circulations while the new coins will be compatible with the existing vending machines with the same weight, size, and materials.

The circulation of the new coins alongside new banknotes will be the responsibility of the Bank of Thailand.
