SONGKHLA, 28 November 2017 (NNT) – The Cabinet has given the green light to the extension of a water pipeline under the sea from the mainland to Ko Samui.

Following the mobile Cabinet meeting in Songkhla province, Government Spokesman Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkumnerd revealed that the Cabinet had agreed to a proposal by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to construct an undersea water pipeline, stretching from mainland Surat Thani to Ko Samui in the Gulf of Thailand. The project is aimed at ensuring sufficient water supplies for island dwellers’ consumption in their daily life as well as business operations and tourism activity.

On this occasion, the Government Spokesman said the Prime Minister also underscored the necessity of setting up a wastewater treatment system on each island of the country.

Furthermore, the government is studying the idea of motivating private investors to establish tap water production plants on the islands through the issuance of tax incentives.
