    PM Prayut calls for cooperation between Asean, Canada to cope with global changes

    BANGKOK, 14th November 2017 (NNT) - Thailand's Prime Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, delivered a statement at the ASEAN-Canada 40th Anniversary Commemorative Summit, calling on the ASEAN member countries and Canada to establish cooperation to cope with global changes and to further support regionalism and multilateralism on the basis of international law and common interests.

    The event took place in Manila, the Philippines, to mark the 40th anniversary of Canada's status as a dialogue partner of the ASEAN, the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation, and the 50th anniversary of the ASEAN. At the summit, Gen. Prayut said the ASEAN and Canada should work towards achieving sustainable development goals in a concrete manner, particularly in climate change. He said both sides can jointly promote green growth through the development of environment friendly technologies.

    The Prime Minister said the development of a people-centered ASEAN Community is important for the regional bloc. He added that empowering women to help drive the economy can help the ASEAN achieve its vision and goal of sustainable development.
