BANGKOK, 14th November 2017 (NNT) - The Ministry of the Digital Economy and Society and the Ministry of Finance have collaborated to urgently develop the national digital ID system to ensure security of online services for the public. The system will be fully operational in June next year.

Assistant to the Minister of Finance Kiatchai Sophasathianphong, said today that in the future, apart from the 13-digit citizen ID number, the national digital ID system will use fingerprints, retinal scans and Facebook login information to reduce the risks of online fraud.

Advisor to the national digital ID system development committee Anuchit Anuchitanukul, said the information that can be used to identify a person must be verified by the organizations registering with the system such as the Department of Provincial Administration. In future, each of the organizations will develop its own system and connect with one another to pave the way for more online services such as online loan applications and registration to receive welfare.

Mr.Anuchit stressed that disclosure of personal information must be approved by the person who owns the information. He said the system will solidify around June 2018.
