4 Japanese killed in car accident in central Thailand

BANGKOK (Kyodo) -- Four Japanese tourists were killed Wednesday in a car accident in Ayutthaya, central Thailand, local police said.

The Japanese Embassy in Bangkok also confirmed the death of the four -- two men and two women. Local media reported that a Thai tour guide died in the accident, too, after being taken to hospital.

The accident occurred in Ayutthaya, about 80 kilometers north of Bangkok, at around 4 p.m. when the car carrying the four seemed to have crashed into a parked truck and burst into flames, according to media reports.

The four were identified as Katsuhiko Narimoto, 65, Haruka Narimoto, 30, Kumiko Komeima, 59, and Yoshio Komeima, 68. They were participating in a sightseeing tour organized by Tokyo-based Nippon Travel Agency Co.

Police said that the truck was turning on Route 347, the Pathum Thani to Bang Pahan road in the direction of Bang Pahan. The truck slowed and the van was unable to stop and went into the back of the truck.

If he made it to the hospital alive then statistically he isn't counted as having been killed in the accident. Fcuking crazy.

I know the road well, as that's the route I take when going up to Ayuthaya. Usually not that dangerous, but can be a fast road and there are a few u-turns...........

One of the rules of Thailand, don't go speeding when coming up to either u-turns, trucks or tuk tuks (those fookers can turn on a dime).

Another of the many road laws which are never followed.

If he was the typical van driver, he was probably tailgating at 120 kph too.
