My guess is that the chinkies will be more than happy to help their Myanmar-ian-ese-ish friends out.

Rather depressing to see the country take staggering steps backwards. This is the sad result of oppressing population and allowing them to become worldly and educated citizens. I for one will be smiling in the departures lounge come April

I really don't understand the role the world bank plays in Asia. Is it interest free the loans that they dole out? Or is there a timeframe for them to pay it back? Seems to me most se asian countries would be better of doing there own thing. World banks big here in lao funding various stuff. But does it make a difference to the average fucker on the street. They can still go buy a $50 000 pickup up on the never never for about 2% interest so what's stopping the coonta raising there own capital?
Me thinks the world banks an outdated concept. Let them get on with it themselves. Sink or swim.
Feel free to disagree with me.

    They're not my enemies.

But one or the other of them seem particularly unwelcome in certain countries.

Yep, and Burma forever after saying bye bye to agricultural land and mining sites, and hello to foreign (Chinese) owned hotels and shopping malls.

Mind you, it's not a huge loan.

That's a nice compliment with which I'd have to disagree, no matter what the religion.

Yes, "worldly and educated" and "religious" is definitely a contradiction in terms.
