Thai Junta to Ban Foreigners Living in Thailand from Owning Guns

BANGKOK – Thailand’s Junta Government the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) on Thursday passed amendments to the firearms law which ban foreigners living in Thailand from having and using guns and also place controls on fireworks and Bang Fai rockets.

The previous version of the Firearms, Bullets, Explosive Objects, Fireworks and Fake Firearms Act did not require people who want to have or use a gun to be Thai nationals. Consequently foreigners living in Thailand were able to seek permission to have and use guns.

The newly amended law requires Thai nationality.

Yep, good law. Foreigners with gun permits are responsible for so much carnage in Thailand.

Common sense really. One's Thai wife can still have one, if one really wants one.

It was always very opaque anyway. Had a gun nut amerkin living in our village a few years ago, constantly obsessed about getting a gun (well, a few). Always seemed to be stymied or obfuscated at every turn, to the point where he was talking about smuggling in gun parts from Cambodia! I think they just didn't want him to have guns (mad bastard), and I agree.

Anyway, he's living happily enough in the Filippines now with his gun collection, and a wife.

Know him well. Understand why he was stymied at every turn.

Well Jeff, maybe you should try reading the fucking post before you try and comment on it.
