7-Eleven Pulls Draft Beer After Protest

    Teeranai Charuvastra

BANGKOK — Cups won’t be running over with draft beer at 7-Eleven stores, after all.

Less than a week after a trial of of draft beer machines debuted, 7-Eleven announced Friday it suspended the service nationwide following protests by anti-alcohol protesters.

A representative of CP All, the conglomerate that owns all Thai 7-Eleven stores, said the company would take into account opinions from all sides before making a final decision whether to bring the service back.

Seems already changed their minds and said okay, but staff must pull the beer.

It's pretty bad they will let people wander out on the sidewalks with an open beer in hand. At least make a corner where the beer can be consumed on the 7-Eleven premises so they have to deal with the drunks themselves.

Just close down what has become the highly destructive 7-11 franchise altogether.
    Problems solved.

Fuck seven and what they represent.

Aint that the truth, sweet beer with a minimum or carbonation. One time on sip and never again.

I like the mom and pop shops and the local hooch (rice wine). That stuff gets you drunk and peels a layer off your stomach lining. Guaranteed to unblock the constipated too. Go easy on the rice wine though.

Draft beer barred at convenience stores

SELLING draft beer via dispensing machines at convenience stores is a violation of the Alcohol Control Act 2008, the Public Health Ministry’s sub-committee ruled yesterday.

Such beer sales violated the act’s Section 30(1) that prohibited alcohol beverage sale via automate dispensers and also violated Section 32 that banned alcohol advertising because the dispenser also visibly carried the logo and brand of an alcohol beverage, said the sub-committee spokesman Dr Boonyoo Khorpornprsert. The former offence is punishable by up to one year in prison and/or up to Bt20,000 in fines, while the latter is punishable by up to one year in prison and/or up to Bt500,000 in fines.

His comment followed the sub-panel meeting to consider whether this method of beer sales represented an infringement of the law, and to issue clear directives to all those stores selling beer.

Next, the sub-panel would ask the Alcohol Control Committee to proceed with legal actions against each of the 7-Eleven convenience stores that had sold draft beer via this method on a pilot basis, despite the owner CP All’s previous announcement it would stop such a service, Boonyoo said. He said this resolution was only about the 7-Eleven stores, not about other companies’ stores that had not yet been inspected.

Or to translate that into English, Boonyoo and his pals want some hush money form CP for the half term holiday. It's not easy living on civil servants wage packet.
