Lazada expands Alibaba offerings into three more SE Asian countries

Taobao marketplace products will soon be available in the Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand

China’s Alibaba is connecting sellers on its marketplace to an even larger swath of the globe, as partner Lazada announced Monday expansion of Taobao offerings into three of Southeast Asia’s biggest markets.

Selected products will soon be available in the Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand, Reuters reports, following the launch in Malaysia and Singapore earlier this year.

Alibaba increased its stake in the Singapore-based Lazada to 83% in June.

Amazon’s delayed launch into Southeast Asia finally happened in July, where its Prime Now quick delivery service represents its sole presence in the region.

Yeah, I like Lazada, the only time I've had problems is from a couple of things shipped from outside Thailand. Takes too long or never arrived.I always COD so not a big problem for me. IME best to buy stuff from Thai sellers.

Yep, I've made a decision to not buy from OS sellers even though i have had zero issues.

I love the fact that buying from inside Thailand sees the product arrive within a few days and delivered straight to my Condo office.

    Brilliant service.

I had a recent issue with them. Order was charged but not confirmed and then it wasn’t until post delivery due date that they bothered to tell me there had been a payment systems issue and they’d be refunding me.

No option to simply reorder either. Annoying.

Lazada is great and I use them all the time. I also try to buy in Thailand though no problems with things coming from China...until now. Two days past time for my order to arrive.

Something seems to to be up with the Thai postal service. I've had problems as well as others with international mail both outgoing and incoming.

^^ I had a similar problem with them one time. They took payment but the order didn't go in the system. Took three or four weeks to get it worked out.

Another time my order arrived but the number of items in the package were short. Told them it would be stupid to send the whole thing back since what I had was usable. They told me to keep it and gave me a refund.

Yeah, I've had some expected incoming stuff go missing recently (non Lazada).

The most import thing about buying from Lazarda or any on line merchant is to make sure you suss the product out and do the home work on your purchase.

Many fake goods, must be careful.

Well it appears they are simply making official what has been happening already, IE Chinese wholesale bulk merchants selling items on Lazada.

I try to avoid items coming from China, but mostly due to me being impatient.

So overall no real change it seems.

You're right. I inevitably search for a specific item that I've researched, and if possible go the 'cash on delivery' route. Also pays sometimes to look local, as an example, I recently bought a B&D Strimmer from Lazada, only to spot it in my local HomePro actually cheaper.

They seem to be inundated with the amount of online shopping and parcels they have to deal with now. Seems to have been an unexpected phenomenon for them..

Still trying to deliver on motorcycles also, where I live. Spoken to a couple of their staff that inform they are pissed off with the job, and a lot of staff have left already..

I'm always checking stuff out on lazarda on a regular basis and have noticed some vendors sell Stuff ridiculous prices.

Smart phones are a classic example. They must get some dumb punters who actually buy them or they would not bother posting their stuff up.

Ya really need to do your research before buying anything on Lazarda.

Do ya research, know ya product, know the street price and ya can bag some brilliant deals.
