BMA prepares to landscape Khlong Lot

BANGKOK, 17th September 2017 (NNT) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is preparing to landscape Khlong Lot canals at the suggestion of HM the King.

BMA Permanent Secretary Patarut Tardaranon and other high-ranking officials have surveyed Khlong Lot Wat Ratchanatda and Khlong Lot Wat Ratchabophit before mapping out a development and landscaping scheme for both canals.

The revamp of Khlong Lot is part of a plan to develop the old city moat Khlong Khu Mueang Doem. The task entails garbage disposal, footpath clean-up and tree pruning and trimming along the 7.3 kilometer-stretch of the canals. The BMA together with different sectors will start the undertaking on 1st October.

The two Khlong Lot canals were dug in 1784 to connect the old city moat, as King Rama I had ordered the capital to be moved from Thonburi side to Phra Nakhon side. The canals, which pass major places, was a major transport route during the reign of King Rama V.

Khlong Lod Market Highlights The Khlong Lod Market scene is rather disorganized, but this adds to its appeal. Instead of rows of vendors, it’s more like a labyrinth where you just get lost in a complex maze of product displays. Under dim lights and parasols, merchandise is displayed in no particular order or category. Alongside clothing and shoes, you have books, old radios, motorcycle parts, remote-controlled toys and electric guitars. Drinks stands, snacks and grilled meat skewers vendors are randomly wedged in between. Then there are the usual finds, such as T-shirts, sneakers, fashion accessories and handmade trinkets. Some vendors have a little bit of everything, as long as it’s used and still sellable.
