A forestry official who went missing while on a foot survey of forest area in Samoeng district of Chiang Mai two days ago was found dead yesterday (Sept 15).

Phetphanom Sombatmai, a forestry officer of Samoeng Wildlife Sanctuary, went missing while surveying forest area in Ban Jum village in Samoeng district on Sept 14.

He was one of the three-men unit assigned to survey the area.

Chief of the Samoeng Wildlife Sanctuary Office Somnuek Chaitham said a search on Sept 14 could not locate him.

The search resumed the next morning (Sept 15) when a combined team of almost a hundred of forestry officials, local officers, rescue workers, and villagers combed the suspected forest area again.

At about 3pm, the team found the body of Phetphanom at the foot of a hill.

Doctors performed initial examination and suspected he fainted and fell off the hill while making survey of the area.

Mr Somnuek said financial aid was given to family of the dead officer.
