The police in Chumphon province are hunting dog poisoner after several dogs wandering on King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang Prince of Chumphon Campus, Chumphon Province (KMITL PCC) have died from poisons.
The police were acting on call by students and lecturers of the Chumphon campus of the KMITL after they noticed unsual deaths of the dogs wandering on the campus since early last month.
They lodged complaint with the police and attached evidence of pictures of dead dogs around the campus to support the police action.
A bio-technology lecturer Niphat Maneechoti told Pathiu district police that there are about 40 dogs wandering on the campus and they were given food daily by students and KMITL staff.
But after the opening of the second educational semester, it’s population decreased gradually.
He said students reported dead dogs near their dormitories, about 3-5 dogs daily.
Some dogs were also seen lying dead with meat balls in their mouths, indicating that they might be poisoned, he said.
He said these dogs were well taken care of by students and they were looked after by veterinarians who gave them vaccinations regularly against rabies and birth control.
He asked the police to probe and find the dog poisoner as it was a criminal offence to poison dogs and a violation of the Animal Cruelty Law.
In respond to the call, police and district livestock official made an inspection of the campus yesterday to find evidence.
They found two more dead dogs in the ditch. The dogs had been dead for three weeks.
The police said they will summon some people who have business in the campus for questioning.
