BANGKOK, 21 June 2017 (NNT) - Bangkok has reported that the construction of the sewer tunnel under the Bang Sue Canal is now 87% complete and will begin testing in August this year.
Bangkok Governor Pol Gen Asawin Kwanmuang inspected the progress of the tunnel's construction and expressed confidence that it will successfully alleviate flooding in the area.
The tunnel will be one of Bangkok's five sewage tunnels. It has a diameter of five meters and spans 6.4 kilometers from Ratchadapisek Road, going underneath Bang Sue Canal and out to the Chao Phraya River.
The tunnel will drain the districts of Dusit, Bang Sue, Phayathai, Chatuchak, Din Daeng and Huai Khwang, reducing flooding on the roads Phaholyothin, Vibhavadi Rangsit, Ratchadaphisek and Kamphaengphet.
