Thread: Actress ‘Anna Reese’ arrested for drunk driving two years after killing policemen

THAI-BRITISH model and actress Anna Hamblaouris, who killed a policeman in a road accident in 2015, was arrested early yesterday morning on charges of drunk driving and hit and run for another crash in Bangkok.

She was released on Bt20,000 bail and would be formally charged in court within a month, said Huay Kwang police chief Pol Colonel Arkom Chanthasraj.

Huay Kwang police were alerted about the alleged hit and run involving the 30-year-old actress, who is well known in Thailand as “Anna Reese”, at about 1am. They then spotted her on Soi Ratchada 7 about 500 metres from a pub and took her to the police station. Her BMW Z4 was damaged on the right side of the front bumper.

Pol Lt-Colonel Alongkot Tubchom said she was apparently under the influence of alcohol, yelling and crying, and unable to give testimony. Alongkot said he was told by staff at a pub on Culture Road that the actress had been drinking and damaged property before fleeing in her car, which crashed into the rear of another customer’s vehicle.

Her blood-alcohol level of 141 milligrams per 100 millilitres was almost three times above than the legal limit of 50mg, said city police chief Pol Lt-General Sanit Mahathavorn.

Anna later said she had drunk alcohol because of severe stress, but denied taking drugs. She said she was supposed to care for a younger sibling with special needs but she was suffering from depression.

Anna went into the Thai entertainment business at the age of four by appearing in baby soap commercials. Her appearance in the music video “Do Something” by singer Nakarin “Pang” Kingsak in 2004 made her famous and led to acting jobs, including in the television drama “Neua Manud” (Supernatural) and Thai films such as “Tears of the Black Tiger”, “The Letters of Death” and “Legend of the Tsunami Warrior”. She later became well known for sexy fashion shoots before fading from the limelight.

On June 26, 2015, Anna made headlines when her Mercedes-Benz crashed into a car belonging to Pol Lieutenant Napadol Wongbandit, who had parked on a motorway in Bangkok’s Prawes district to rest late at night. The policeman died at the scene.

Prawes police were criticised in public for failing to conduct an alcohol test on the actress, and possibly allowing her to escape severe penalties. She was reportedly crying at the scene of the accident and police did not take legal action against her.

Anna attended Napadol’s funeral and temporarily served as a Brahmin nun to make merit for him.
