BANGKOK, 20 May 2017 (NNT) – Authorities have commenced the removal of existing houses at Tha Sai community by Ladprao canal as part of the canal restoration and embankment reinforcement project.

Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) Permanent Secretary Maitri Inthusut presided over the commencement ceremony for the removal of te houses, construction of the embankment and the renovation of the community for villagers living by the canal at Tha Sai community by Ladprao canal in Sai Mai district, Bangkok.

He said the government had planned to keep constructions from obstructing public waterways and to renovate canalside communities including the construction of canal walls to prevent flooding in Bangkok.

The community by the canal will be renovated to have better houses and living atmosphere.

The MSDHS permanent-secreatry said Tha Sai community is one of the communities which do not object the government's project, and cooperated by gathering a central savings group as a fund for the reconstruction of new houses. 31 houses are being removed from over Khlong Ladphrao Canal, while the construction of new 34 replacement houses will commence in June. The total budget for the construction of replacement houses and for compensation to the affected people is at 8,053,700, supported by the Community Organizations Development Institute.
