    Cambodia-Thailand Friendship Railway Bridge Completed

AKP Phnom Penh, September 22, 2016 - The Cambodia-Thailand Friendship Railway Bridge in Poipet, Banteay Meanchey province was connected yesterday, according to a news release from the Cambodian Ministry of Public Works and Transport.

H.E. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister, Minister of Public Works and Transport of Cambodia, presided at the event, where concrete was caste in a ceremony to complete the connecting railway bridge.

“This link, between the Cambodian and Thai railways, is as of today, completed,” underlined H.E. the Senior Minister said.

The Ministry is continuing its efforts to repair and rebuild the track via this link, up to Battambang provincial town by the end of 2016, and later to connect the track onwards to the station in the capital Phnom Penh, he added.

This northern line from Phnom Penh to Poipet, is 386 kilometers in total length, and was originally built and in operation between 1929 and 1942, during the French colonial era.

If they had a decent train going direct it would be a nice trip for a few days in PP.

Love traveling by train, but much rather this:

She's gorgeous, no wonder the fella is ignoring his wife...

But yeah, a nice train trip from Bangkok to PP would be really nice; I can't see the Thais buying into that idea - they like to keep the walking atms in Thailand.
    Cycling should be banned!!!

Didn't they open up a train crossing at Nong Khai/Vientiane 5 years or so ago? There was much hand ringing and celebration, probably called the Super Friendship Forever Thanks China For Buying Bridge or something.

    How's that going?

When I was there you could look at it but not actually ride thru, considering onboard immigration control has been used in Europe for a century it aint high tech, Controllers get on well before frontier if you dont have visa etc?

Suprised travelling from Schipol to Paris this year, no control entering Belgium but into France CRS gurds with heavy auto wapeons and at Gare Du Nord in Paris , I guess this is what a state of emergency means.

Yet unlike perfunctory bag search on MRT ar Asoke blokey ,no checks in the metro or RER, I did see a raid/closed off levels at Auber but think it was adrill whole station closed off in rush hour in late June I think
