Motorists warned against using device to conceal license plates

The Land Transport Department has warned motorists against the use of a remotely-
controlled device which can hide a car’s license plates, saying it is against the automobile law and violators are liable to a fine up to 2,000 baht.

The department said it is checking whether such a device is available after a video clip was posted on the internet showing a woman demonstrating how she concealed a license plate attached to the front of her BMW with the claimed device, said Mr Chirut Visarnchit, deputy director-general of the department.

According to the law, he said license plates must be firmly attached to the front and back of a car at a point where the license numbers are clearly seen. It is also against the law if any part of a plate is blocked that any license numbers cannot be seen, he added.

It's been a loophole in the law that motorists don't have to display a license plate on the rear of the vehicle for as long as anyone can remember here.?

It's not as if they've got speed cameras operating. Why would you want one of these devices in Thailand?

You don't drive do you Maa
Last year I traveled 70,000 klm on Thai roads, how many speed cameras did I see.
Lost count on how many camera's.
In Malaysia they put signs up on the motorway, 1 sign you dont slow down.
    2 signs a 300 metres a part you don't slow down.
When there are 3 signs, 300 metres a part, thats telling you these a speed camera ahead then you slow down.
I love the roads in Malaysia

Actually they do, mostly on Highway 7 between Chonburi and Bangkok, which ironically is the safest road in Thailand on which to drive fast. It comes in the mail about 2 weeks later, costs a whopping 500 Baht and can be paid at the post office and now Krung Thai Bank. Best part is so long as its paid no one cares how many you get, there is no point count. I've gotten 4 or 5 of them.

They have speed camera south of Hua Hin.
I like to travel at night time as they are no speed camera out at night.
