Police reforms now underway to improve police efficiency

BANGKOK, 21 July 2016 (NNT) - The Royal Thai Police has resolved to expedite reform of police investigations at 514 metro police stations within one year to improve the efficiency of police work.

Deputy Police Chief Police General Pongsapat Pongcharoen said 10 police reforms, which are now underway, are to be achieved in one, five, ten and twenty years.

He said reform of police investigations for 514 metro police stations is the most urgent matter and will be completed in one year. The stations are required to set up a one stop service desk to allow crime reporting and assistance seeking to be conducted together for public convenience.

The reform also calls for police to treat all citizens indiscriminately, respond to people in a timely manner and to be thorough in their investigations. The Royal Thai Police will soon undergo other reforms for its remaining 982 police stations.

In the second phase of its reform legal, organizational as well as ethical training courses will be carried for police officers to help them become more effective in their duties.

Looks like the reform is a matter of actually doing the job they are already supposed to do

I trust that the absence of the accepted graft, corruption, and mafia-like standing would be in order regarding such reform.........as a decent and honourable policing system has been lost for a few generations now.

How can we ask a civil policing system to right itself when all around is continued displays of corruption, immoral, and criminal activity - as a way of life.

Very Thai in the usual surface rhetoric.

Thai police force was originally modeled on the post war Japanese police force. Shame they didn't learn how to commit Harikari.

Sure, accepting bribe, sequestration,, extorsion etc were anyway already forbidden ... this reform may be summarised as "work like you were supposed to do from the start" ...
I hope they overcome wishfull statements and intend to design real measures and enforce them ..

Agree that corruption and more generally bending the rules is a way of life here, police, administration, army ... they all get their ways, as any or at least many thais are willing to hand cash/gifts to get what they ask for... my wife call it "put some oil in the machine" so that it doesn't cringe and go smoothly .. ..nevermind the service asked is "normal", supposed to be free or has a fixed fee (issuing an official paper for example)

So, this is where I would check the "Bribe Menu" for services rendered, then?

Wonder if it'll be a discreet little pamphlet or perhaps a white board on the wall?
