BANGKOK, 15 May 2016 (NNT) - Deputy Commissioner-General Aekkawut Liptaphanlop has revealed that the Royal Thai Police (RTP) will be seeking to expand bilateral cooperation with neighboring countries to prevent human trafficking, transporting illegal migrant workers, drugs smuggling and transnational crime.

Through making bilateral agreements with Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia and Myanmar, the RTP has integrated crime suppression among ASEAN member states.

The RTP has also established the Transnational Crime Prevention and Suppression Center, apart from the ASEAN Center, the Deputy Commissioner-General who was in charge of foreign affairs has said.

He disclosed that the RTP has become a member of Interpol. The exchange of information has allowed Thai police to arrest a large number of suspects that have fled abroad.

The Deputy Commissioner-General said that the Thailand Immigration Office was the first among ASEAN member states to link transnational crime and its arrest warrant database to the Interpol. This will enable the Thai immigration police to verify suspects’ passport and arrest them swiftly.
