BANGKOK: Bangkok's Metropolitan Police are upgrading their crime-fighting database with the help of the New York City Police Department, the first such cooperation between the NYPD and an Asian police force.
This development comes after complicated cases like the 2015 Erawan Shrine bomb attack revealed the shortcomings of the Thai police’s investigation methods and approach.
When it comes to solving crime, Bangkok's Metropolitan Police force use a methodology that some might say is old-fashioned.
This includes the use of regular patrols, and meetings with community contacts and informants, as well as techniques like sticking pins in maps as a form of “crime watch” to record the incidence and timing of crimes in particular locations.
And whilst these methods have proved useful at a precinct level, they become problematic in more complicated, multi-jurisdiction cases.
But with the help of the NYPD, or New York City Department, this is set to change.....
