Government Housing Bank to provide housing credit for civil servants and the elderly

BANGKOK, 26 April 2016 (NNT) - The Government Housing Bank (GHBank) is planning to extend credit for the construction of rental homes for civil servants as well as homes for the elderly.

GHBank Chairman Surachai Tungchaitrakool said the rental homes will be provided for newly enlisted military officers at a discount, as part of the military benefits program. Another long-term program will likely be implemented within the next three months.

The GHBank Chairman added that the bank is also finding ways to provide low-interest loans to public and private entities of housing development programs for the low-income elderly. The program will be a collaboration with the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security and have a total budget of 10 billion baht. More details are expected to be released in the next six months.

In some ways Thailand is more enlightened than NZ. That's if it ever gets beyond the paper proposal.

Why aren't the "newly enlisted military officers" accommodated on military bases?

Will those officers be allowed to sub-let the houses?

Treasury Dept. signs contracts to build houses for low-income people

BANGKOK, 16 August 2016 (NNT) - The Treasury Department is moving ahead with four housing projects for low-income civil servants and the general public. The reservation of the units will take place from 19 -21 August 2016 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.

The department's Director-General, Chakkrit Pharaphanthakul on Tuesday signed contracts with the winners of bids for the construction of the housing projects. The projects include more than 800 units of condominium and house in Bangkok and Phatchaburi provinces.

The condominiums will be leased for 4,000 baht a month for five years to those who earn less than 20,000 baht a month. The houses will be leased for 690,000 -1,000,000 baht in a long term contract.

The same housing projects in Chiang Mai were cancelled due to opposition from the local people.
