Tourists viciously assaulted by Phuket night club guards

VIDEO Shows Vicious Beating as Guards Throw 'Tourists' Out of Phuket Nightclub

    Video link: http://www.facebook.com/pui.jjspk/vi...3721860641108/

PHUKET: A video showing extreme violence by guards at a nightclub said to be in Phuket's Soi Bangla tourist walking street is likely to bring an instant reaction from Patong police today.

The video, posted on Facebook yesterday, shows a group of young men all wearing black-shirts with the word GUARD across the back kicking and elbowing two men in shorts who appear to be tourists.

In the 48 seconds of footage, the men in black shirts can be seen repeatedly kicking the ''tourists'' in the body and the head, in some cases with maximum force.

One guard also elbows a defenceless man in the head. The guards appear to be evicting the ''tourists'' - using excessive violence in the process.

While the nightclub that is the scene of the brutal beating is not named by the person who posted the video, commenters say the shocking footage shows the entrance to a well-known club in Patong, Phuket's west coast nightlife hub.

The vicious, violent overreaction of the ''guards'' is likely to damage tourism on Phuket as the footage is seen by viewers around the world.

Whatever the ''tourists'' did inside the premises, the beating delivered by the black-shirts is excessive.

At no point in the brief but shocking footage do the ''tourists'' strike a blow.

Security guards at nightclubs in Patong have a poor reputation and allegedly are prone to violence.

Professional bouncers at nightclubs in the West are required to show restrain at all times and to call in police to deal with troublemakers.

Earlier this year, an Australian expat was charged with murder after a security guard was knifed outside a Patong nightclub.

Security camera footage later showed that the Australian was subjected to a ''pack attack'' and only pulled the knife as a last resort to save his own life.

Charges have since been dropped. There are no special requirements for Phuket nightclub guards to undertake studies in professional behavior.

    no surprise.

seeing as many young thai males of the gutter class are closely related to inbred monkeys, the monkeys possibly are slightly more intelligent but otherwise the similarities are striking.

I didn't see maximum force used in any of those kicks. And the elbow to the head missed, or perhaps grazed.

I don't see the attraction of these "nightclubs", the music is too loud and they are full of the sort of knobs getting a kicking here; the ones that usually think they are actually "pulling" girls with their silver tongued chat up lines.

I see The White Room in Patong has sacked the bouncers.

The Aussies have not approached the police as yet , being tourists I imagine they are licking their wounds and putting it down to experience.

Patong discos are notorious for bill padding , but drunk Aussies are notorious for forgetting how many drinks they've had.

Phuket Nightclub Shut Down, Aussie Tourist Says Drinks Cards Fooled Bashing Victims

PHUKET: A club on Phuket where two tourists were savagely beaten by bouncers has been closed for seven days with the victims telling their side of the story to Australian television.

The White Room, where two Australians with friends on an end-of-season football trip were kicked and elbowed by five ''guards'' in a beating captured on video, has been closed for seven nights with an official investigation likely.

One of the Australians told Channel Nine that the tourists were led to believe a White Room drinks voucher covered part of their bar bill.

But the giveaway could be a scam that carries a penalty of one year in jail or a fine of up to 20,000 baht.

The President of the Entertainment Association of Patong, Weerawit Kuresombut, told Phuketwan today that the White Room has been closed for seven days from last night as a penalty for the violence of the bouncers. He said he knew nothing about them being sacked.

''It's not legal in Thailand to dump or discount the price of alcohol so we will investigate this allegation,'' he said. Voucher cards are often used as a come-on for tourists in Patong, the nightlife hub of Phuket.

A White Room Nightclub ticket to the Open Bar Party produced by one of the victims says: ''This ticket gives you UNLIMITED DRINKS 10pm to 1am for only 800 baht.''

Five Security Guards Who Viciously Attacked 2 Australian Tourists Escape Arrest

PHUKET – The Five security guards shown in video viciously kicking and elbowing two Australian tourists on the Thai resort island of Phuket will escape punishment because the victims have returned home without making police statements.

And conflicting accounts have emerged about what led to the attack outside the White Room nightclub in the Patong entertainment district.

“There is nothing more that we can do,” police Lieutenant Colonel Akanit Danpitaksarn told the Phuket News newspaper.

“I have warned the guards and told them to help preserve our tourism image, but no charges can be pressed against them until the victims file a complaint,” he said.
Aaron, one of the attacked men, said they decided not to go the police in Thailand because they feared being locked up themselves.

Thai police searched for the Australians after a video of the attack went viral on Facebook and asked the Australian embassy in Bangkok to help find them so they could file a complaint.

Phuket police chief Sayan Chanachaiwong told the Phuket News that “right now all the police have is the security guard’s version of what happened …. we really need the two tourists to come in and give us their version of events”.

Aaron denied a police claim the trouble started when his group refused to pay their drinks bill in club after one of them was ordered to leave for taking off his shirt.

“We were standing on the steps of the VIP area and one of the security guards came over and he’s being pretty aggressive from the word go,” Aaron said. “And he grabbed Trev (one of the group) from around the neck and pushed him down the stairs,” he said.

“I went to go in between them and I was king-hit from the side and that’s all I remember.”

But the guards told police said the six-member group denied having any drinks bill and argued with the waiter when the bill came. Police said the guards told them the tourists ignored the waiter and became disruptive after being ordered to leave the club and one of them punched a guard in the face after leaving.

The guards’ version is that they were fighting back when the video was taken. Aaron told ninemsn that not one of the group threw a punch.

“Everyone just got bruises, split lips, lumps on the backs of the head and skin off but no major injuries,” he said.

Police have recommended the closure of the White Room for a week.

I have been to watch band's etc, more in the centre of Thailand, none tourist type area's, they don't have Security guards in attendance. But from what I see, as soon as you add westerners, the security becomes a problem, the reason is westerners have a few beers and become F@#k wits. I have no sympathy for idiots that think they can do what ever they like in another country.

^^^ I'll wager they were from the south somewhere. Not because being from, say, Thammarat necessarily makes you more prone to beat people up in nightclubs (although they do seem to comprise many of siam's hitmen), rather that semi 'desirable' jobs like being a bouncer in an expensive tourist place tend to be denied the northerners, unless of course it is an isaan or northern owned business. Just good old cronyism & nepotism.

Patong Venues Sign Up With Police to End Phuket Tourist Rip-Offs, Violence

PHUKET: Representatives of Patong clubs, bars and other venues signed an MoU with officers from Kathu Police Station yesterday, promising to improve the reputation of the Phuket nighlife holiday hub.

From now on, the island's most famous destination will be a safer place, they say.

Talks have been continuing in the weeks since bouncers at one Patong venue were filmed inflicting a savage beating on several young Australian tourists.

The Australians did not go to police out of fears for their own safety but the video, which showed at least two young men being subjected to a savage needless kicking, was viewed widely around the world.

The person who filmed the attack and bravely posted it on Facebook was also intimidated.

Kathu Deputy Superintendent Colonel Akanit Danpitaksat joined the MoU signing and said: ''We all agree that tourists have to feel safe when they visit Patong at night.

''Our police patrols in and around the Soi Bangla walking street are being increased, and the MoU will help to ensure everybody understands the need to uphold the law.''

The brutal attack by the bouncers followed the stabbing death of a bouncer earlier in the year outside another Patong venue.

An Australian expat who stopped to film an eviction from a nightspot with the aim of protecting the people involved became the target for a ''pack attack.''

In fighting for his life, he fatally knifed one assailant.

But police reviewed security camera footage that showed the expat being stomped in the head and dropped a murder charge.

In both the fatal stabbing and the beating by the bouncers, footage of what took place provided conclusive evidence of needless violence by Patong nightspot workers.

The message from yesterday's gathering was clear: under no circumstances should staff at nighttime venues take the law into their own hands.

''Do not attack or beat tourists'' was the first item on the MoU list, followed by ''make sure that the policies regarding tourism in Thailand are fully understood.''

The MoU also made the point that the Patong ''safety zone'' concept of relying on residents and workers to alert and assist police is still seen as the key to tourists feeling safe.

All venues should have security cameras inside and outside, the MoU said.

In other advice, the MoU suggested people should not leave keys in parked motorcycles.

The MoU added that Public Health officials would talk to venues about the need to conform to laws governing alcohol consumption and sales.

The Australians who were beaten by the bouncers said they did not try to avoid paying their bar bill, and produced vouchers that gave them ''special deals.''

The vouchers are now considered to be illegal.

The island's honorary consuls - generally seen as the representatives of tourists and expats - are due to meet with Phuket's Governor to discuss safety and security issues today.
