Meteor captured on dash cam in Thailand

A huge fireball believed to be a meteorite fell on earth and was seen by many people in the country during the morning rush hour.
The huge fireball fell vertically on earth and witnessed by thousands of Bangkok people driving to work and walking on the streets during the morning rush hour at 8.45 am.

It was so bright and in green and orange colours when it fell down vertically from the sky with white smoke tail.

There was no sound of explosion when it fell on earth and disappeared in Bangkok sky.

But residents in Sisawat district of Kanchanaburi province, about 200 kilometres away from Bangkok, also reported sighting the fireball and followed by a thunderous explosion.

One resident said at first she thought it was an aircraft accident but district officials affirmed there was no aircraft accident in the area.

But a relief organisation foundation rescue worker in Kanchanaburi reported hearing two explosions and now a team of rescue workers was sent out to locate the scene of explosion.

JS 100 Radio Station interviewed an astrologer who said it might be a meteorite which could fall day and night.

But this time this meteorite might be huge and was then seen on broad daylight.

Aeronautical Radio of Thailand later confirmed no aircraft accident and said it could possibly be a meteorite, the traffic radio station said.

Motorists began filing in pictures of the fireball caught from their car video cameras to JS 100 station showing tail of white smoke plunging from the sky.

...an astrologer who said it might be a meteorite which could fall day and night...
He should be promoted to astronomer.

An astrologer. Bloody hell. You would have thought they could rustle up an astronomer from somewhere.

Still - looking at the vid -very strange - it looks like it "blows up" just before it disappears (sudden brightening of intensity), which I would have thought to be inconsistent with a meteor.

Someones very big firework gone astray maybe?

Actually, I think that is consistent. As the heat of the material increases it is glowing, but at some point it combusts all at once, after it has reached a particular size and temperature.

It's a rocket left over from when the government put a ban on the rocket competitions in May. Explosive propulsion powder become volatile with age and this is what we see. A rocket that blew up on decent. Just my view on the matter.

Edit: Due to Thais believing that they can induce rain by firing rockets into the clouds this adds to the possibility I'm correct because there's a drought.

Saw this first in a space forum. I want to show you one comment over there.

    That was pretty cool.

An aside: I was more horrified by the driving in the video than the threat of any meteoric apocalypse
There were more comments on a similar line.

Meteorite landed on Thai soil is the biggest of its kind on Earth in 2015

BANGKOK, 16 September 2015 (NNT) - The latest report of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) confirmed the fireball which streaked across the Thai sky on Sept 7 was the biggest of its kind seen this year from outer space, revealed the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (Public Organization) or Narit.

The report said some debris might be left in Kanchanaburi, and that people should not be worried about the fireball as it was a normal phenomenon.

Narit is conducting an analysis of the object, believed to be a meteor, based on the NASA report and onsite survey in Kanchanaburi.

Narit’s deputy director Dr.Saran Posyachinda said the object from the outer space was 3.5 meters in diameter and weighted around 66 tonnes. It moved to the Earth with 75,600 km. per hour in speed. Its explosive power was as equal as a 3.9 kilotonne TNT bomb, or at a quarter of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima.

Dr.Saran reiterated that the fireball was a describable common astronomical phenomenon. Statistics indicated a great number of meteors were entering the Earth’s atmosphere onto oceans or unpopulated areas. Narit will keep monitoring the meteors details and report to the public as soon as possible.
