It's simply mind boggling that this has not happened before.

ive never ever been stopped on the BTS. but that's probably because the Thai guard has been trained in racial profiling and sees no danger in your average Farang, whose only history of trouble on them is a guy with a balloon and another nutter with a bag of sausages.

I doubt very much there was a bomb on the BTS. There are shitloads of cameras up there.

There are no security checks of personal baggage on the BTS, for very obvious reasons.

How often does one have to make this point?

If I were to detonate a bomb for maximum impact and wish to escape detection I would pick the BTS every time. Carrying a shopping bag is the norm for most boarding the MRT from the many malls.

Again, I'm amazed no one has tried this previously.

Tax, whereas there are checks at every British airport there are no checks on the rail network or the various British underground networks. In an open society this is the norm. China is a dictatorship imposed by an army of over 5 millions and their citizens are in jail.
Get real and loosen that Yorkshire girdle, you're showing your Boycotts.
the skytrain is a prime target for an attack by southern muslims, yet the security there is pathetic. watch how it gets ramped up from tomorrow.

Well that's a pile of Bullshit as well.

Today I caught the Skytrain out to Mochit and returned to Silom on the MRT as I always do.

I was out at Chat U Chat buying fish for my tank in my Condo. As I entered the MRT I was packing two bags full of stuff I had bought and a Back Pack.

As I entered the MRT I opened one bag for the Guard to have a look see, The other two bags could of been filled with kryptonite.

You guys that live in Bangkok should refrain from penning this absolute inaccurate rubbish. You all know how it works out here.

The security can be compromised in a Milli second.

From klong toeys Bangkok post link........

Military and police, including national police chief Somyot Pumpanmuang, rushed to the scene and two more devices, found attached to stanchions for the BTS Skytrain, were found in the hour after the blast....

Tax, are you going senile or are you yet to get your "eye" back in after such a long sojourn away from the crease?
The security checks on the MRT comprise a vacuous biddy who looks gormlessly into one's bag with a torch and then smiles in a limp manner one normally associates with a recently expired trout. The scanner bleeps regardless of who or what passes through and is a similar experience to any security check at the bigger shopping malls. These people are in security terms less efficient than the average soi dog.

You may get away with it initially but those cameras will have your mugshot. They are tooled up those security guards who will get nasty if they see you leaving a bomb near their workspace. These cowards who dropped these bombs would take the easy route.id guess.

The only time I have seen the Guards tackle someone is when two girls tried to bring balloons onto the MRT.

The Guards politely informed the girls that the balloons were a No go. The girls had no problem with that, the Balloons were confiscated and the girls moved on.

The signs are clear that Balloons are not allowed in the MRT for safety reasons.

Unlike the Dodger who thought he was above those rules and copped a thrashing a few years ago.

Terry, in over 13 years of living in Bangkok, I have to say I have never been searched, nor have I ever seen anyone else searched, prior to entering a BTS station, the ticket office area, the turnstiles, the area adjacent to the stairways or escalators leading to the platforms or the platforms themselves.

I can only assume in your case the staff were somewhat sensitive to smelly Antipodeans, slightly worse for wear and carrying stinking fish. Or, which seems more likely, you were so drunk you didn't realise you were actually on the MRT at Morchit and not the Skytrain.

On par with driving into Central Store Pattaya and the 'guard' with the mirror sometimes checking the left of you car, sometimes the right of your car but never the boot?

they used to have a security post at phrom pong, on the first level close to the stairs up to the platform.

sometimes it was manned, mostly it wasnt.

    No No,

In normal circumstance I would let this go but for People who do not Know Thailand it leads to confusion.

The Security staff have a job to do but it's simply over whelming , they cannot search every punters bag, it's impossible.

Can we please stick to the facts on this thread.

Ahh, I rather think you are confusing security with the guy dressed in his whites wearing a peaked cap who occasionally searched the bag of a farang dressed in shorts, vest and flip flops who entered the Emporium mall from the BTS lobby area. That only lasted for a few months and was cursory, if that. He wasn't BTS staff, he was a flunkey for the Emporium group.
