Yes, My great great Granddaddy was a nasty Pomgolian.
He was deported To Australia after he murdered 15 Poms in one night.
Me and him would of been Top mates I recon.
^ That is the legend , but he really stole 15 loaves of bread
Are there drinking places, brothels and gambling dens for locals that operate with the knowledge of the authorities?Do locals in Bali participate in such behavior and the Police turn a blind eye
Of course there are.
Terry is essentially an idiot. He thinks everything adverse that happens to foreigners in Asia is their own fault and the consequences are justified whether it be violence or extortion. He is our resident edgy expat on the zeitgeist of danger who never falls foul of circumstance because he is supercool and knows how to eat noodles. His life story, " Dancing with Chickenheads " is to published soon and promises to be a seminal work in prescribing how to avoid pretty much anything.
Terry is a legend and the current role model for the Australian touring fraternity and holds this year's Golden Billabong award for championship camping on the cheap.
terry has always reminded me of Barry Mckenzie, the old private eye cartoon character penned by Barry Humphries and Nicholas Garland.
Anything goes in Bali, if you've got the right connections there. How do I know? We used to have an office in Jakarta, and affluent expats often had villas in Bali, or just rented them for a party weekend. I was down there several times and as I said, anything goes- anything. You'd be rubbing shoulders with several affluent Indon's, as well as expats. Drugs were rampant. Sex? waddya want. Not unique to Bali- anything went in Indonesia really, once again depending on money & connections. It was quite fun hiring a Police motorbike escort, so a few of us exec's could steamroll through the horrendous Jakarta traffic from the airport. Ahh, them were the days.
No doubt this 'operation' was an organised sting and not entirely above board, but I hardly think the boys are in any situation to take on the Indonesian clerical establishment & morality police. Best just think of it as a stupidity tax. It won't get your money back fellas, but the whole thing was probably conceived & executed by collaborating Muslims from Java (there is a large community in Bali). The actual Balinese tend to be much more laid back.

Fair and accurate post this one. The party boys are paying a stupidity tax same as the vast majority of tourists that get taken down in Thailand.
Fair enough, lesson learned and play on.
Poor Terry only ever sees things in black or white. His faculties, such as they are, simply can't cope with the complexity of what is real over and above what, say, a child of ten might comprehend.
I imagine that's why he imagines how he relates so well to the Thai and other Asians, they share the same mindset in which vacuous adolescent thinking is highly prized.
Indonesia is no different to any Asian state where hypocrisy masks a venal, lascivious, avaricious and criminal nature whereby those seeking an advantage will always exploit the weak and vulnerable. Factor in a meaningless rule of law and its scarcely surprising we have these scams operating with impunity.
The Catholic church.... fuck the lot of them.....
Little boy was crying in the corner of class.....
"What's wrong?" asked teacher
"My Mom has died" said the boy
"Shall I get the priest for you?" teacher enquired....
"No miss" he replied "sex is the last thing on my mind at the moment"
Australians overseas would make a good debate for birth control or Australians in Australia for that matter.
