January 27th, Muang Chiang Mai police arrested Nattapong Maneekhat, 18, of Chiang Mai’s Suthep sub-district, for theft.
At least 30 different victims reported to police that three thieves had snatched items and run away in Chiang Mai and Lamphun, especially on Chiang Mai-Lamphun Road.
Nattapong admitted to his crime and also outed his two accomplices, Songyot Yasaeng, 20, of Muang’s Chang Klan sub-district, and Chatchawan Nanta, 21, of Sansai Luang sub-district. Both of them had already been jailed in Chiang Mai Central Prison on drug charges.
The suspects allegedly chose female victims on motorbikes in isolated areas. They would ride after the victims, then kick the victims’ motorbikes and snatch the victim’s belongings.
Nattapong told police he met Songyot and Chatchawan two years ago, while serving a sentence for drug charges at the Juvenile Observation and Protection Centre of Chiang Mai Province.
After being released from the centre, the three young men began thieving together, using the money they stole to buy drugs.
Nattapong and his accomplices will be prosecuted
