Booners, if by adapt you mean a descent into idiocy and foolishness then I must decline your exhortation.

No wonder you chaps never got the hang of colonisation.

Driving here really is a piece of piss to use one of your colloquial expressions.

Thais avoid using the horn and are generally courteous when letting traffic flow into their lane. Not like anywhere in the West. Ever try driving in Athens for example?

Sure, there's all sorts of idiocy on the roads here like wrong-way drivers and morons backing up on major 4 lanes because they missed their exit but to fear major intersections? No problemo, mate.

Thailand is the top alcohol-consuming country in ASEAN with 40 percent of drinkers found in North-East region.

According to the latest alcohol consumption data collected by World Health Organization, Thailand is ranked 1st among ASEAN countries in alcohol consumption, followed closely by Laos and the Philippines.

The Current Situation and Effect of Alcohol Consumption in Thailand 2013 report conducted by the Center for Alcohol Studies (CAS) has shown that 31.5 percent of Thai people aged 15 years and over, or about 17 million drinkers, consume alcohol regularly.

Men consume alcohol more than women, while 77 percent of regular drinkers are adults.

The report also revealed that, in a year, each regular drinker consumes 7.1 litres of pure alcohol, which is equal to 226 bottles of beer or 25 bottles of spirit.

They are at their wits end trying to get Thais to curb their liquor consumption. They believe it is the cause of most family violence and other problems contributing to the breakdown of society. The effort has a noble purpose but is most assuredly futile.

    Who are 'they'?

Are 'they' the folks who keep taking the money from the massive drinks companies?

Indeed, the good and 'noble' people try their hardest for the masses, but it's 'futile' trying to help out these stubborn and stupid masses. Still, not to worry because 'they' can continue to make massive profits from alcohol and alcohol companies in Thailand...

The supposed new legislation hasn't reached Ubon yet. I bought 2 8 litre casks of wine at Makro at 6.30 am Sunday 2.2.15.

    Cheers!

Maybe some effort toward creating more jobs for the Thai male would reduce the number of alcohol drinkers during the day. In my village, staying drunk is the main passtime for all work age males.
