Thai extremists threaten New Zealand to hand over lese majeste suspect

Submitted by editor1 on Fri, 23/01/2015 - 18:26 Thai royalists protested in front of the New Zealand embassy in Bangkok, pressuring the New Zealand government to extradite a lese majeste suspect, living in exile there and threatened to step up measures if the New Zealand government do not comply with the request.

Rienthong Nan-nan, the leader of the Rubbish Collection Organization, an ultra-royalist group, Satit Segal, a director of India-Thai business association, and Maj Gen Charoen Techavanich, the core members the anti-election People’s Democratic Reform Committee, led nearly 60 ex-soldiers, ex-police officers, and others to gather in front of the New Zealand Embassy in central Bangkok on Friday afternoon.

The group came to submit a petition to the New Zealand Embassy urging New Zealand to extradite Ekapop L., (aka. Tang Achiwa), a lese majeste suspect who fled to New Zealand after obtaining a refugee status from the UNHCR, back to Thailand.

The ultra-royalist group also threatened that they will step up measures if the embassy do not comply.

“I and others in the network contacted each other on facebook to come and hand over the petition to the New Zealand Embassy in Thailand to extradite Ekapop to face legal actions in Thailand because what the New Zealand government did is not correct since Ekapop committed criminal offense not the political one. If the embassy do not do something about this, we will escalate measures,” Matichon Online quoted Satit as saying.

Around 100 police and military officers had to maintain tight security around the New Zealand embassy during the activity.

Earlier this month, hundreds of ultra-royalists attacked and threatened UNHCR Office in Thailand on the ‘UNHCR Thailand’ facebook page after it was revealed by Thairath Online that the organization granted refugee status to Ekapop L., an anti-establishment red-shirt activist, who is in exile in New Zealand.

The attacks and threats prompted the UNHCR Thai Office to close down the Facebook page.

The Rubbish Collection Organization also issued a statement condemning the UNHCR, saying that Thai political refugees are using the UNHCR to undermine Thailand and the Thai monarchy.

On 6 January 2014, Prayut Chan-o-cha, the head of the junta, revealed during an interview on Tuesday that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) sent a letter to the New Zealand authorities in an attempt to try to extradite Ekapop.

The letter pointed out to the New Zealand government that the Thai authorities had issued an arrest warrant under Article 112 of the Criminal Code or the lese majeste law against Ekapop, and that in order to prevent the suspect from creating trouble in Thailand from overseas, New Zealand should cooperate with Thailand by extraditing the suspect.

However, according to the New Zealand Herald, New Zealand’s MFA minister refused to give comments on the Thai government inquiry and stated that Ekapop that asylum seekers who have obtained refugee status from the UNHCR can be accepted by New Zealand through a quota system.

If they gather in front of the NZ embassy I hope they can hover14 floors up.
14th Floor, All Seasons Place 87 Wireless Road, its a poky little office building and would be surprised if the corridor can accommodate me than 10 people.

Hope this righteous indignation spurs them on to collect a lot more rubbish.

    existing thread:

if, as it appears, he has been granted UN refugee status and they relocated him to NZ, about zero chance of any extradition

Thai Royalists Call For Boycott of UN Refugee Agency

    as stated there,
21 Sept 2014 He is under the protection of the Cambodian office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
    and

NZ takes (+ - 10%) 750 refugees per year through the UNHCR scheme
the last word to the NZ Herald

Thailand says that Mr Ekaphop is "exploiting his status granted by the New Zealand Government to conduct political activities which have reverse impact on Thailand's security".
This, it says, is an obstacle to the good relationship between the two countries.
New Zealand should buy none of this.
It should be pressing for a democratically elected government in Thailand.
    As is Mr Ekaphop.

I thought political gatherings of more than five people were banned under martial law. What were the 100 police doing? They should have been arresting them. But I guess you need to be wearing a redshirt or eating a sandwich or reading 1984 or giving a the juntas three fingers for that to happen.

It's like they want to start an uprising, so they can start the killing en masse. Seriously glad I won't be here past spring- truly the most fucked up nation I've ever visited.

The only issue of any consequence is the inordinate stupidity of these people who evidently can't quite comprehend the rest of the world is not languishing in the Middle Ages, as the Thai are.

No surprise there, nothing new, move along to the next imbecility. One is always assured of some nonsense or other, that's why it's such fun here.

Frankly, the average police general couldn't spell UN Convention 1951, never mind say it or even comprehend what it means. Dumbest fuckwits on the planet.
