bizarre behaviour, akin to his comment about ugly girls in bikinis.

couldnt hear the commentary, but the tag line reads that he threw the banana skin onto the head of the cameraman.

it would be bad form from a drunk, but from the pm it merely confirms his lack of respect for those he governs.

the man is a megalomaniac, like all those running, attempting to run, or believing they run this ridiculous insignificant country.

It's a joke, for Chrissakes. Making fun of a lesser being through practical high jinx, japery and buffoonery is the military way. By throwing a banana at some hack cameraman he elicitied a laugh from the gallery. This sort of humour is all part of the bullying nature of the mess when senior officers can do pretty much as they like at the expense of the junior ranks.

What else would one expect from a General with 40 years service in. A witty mot juste illuminating the difference between Descartes and Wittgenstein?

Observation of Thai body language might reveal that this almost humorous, even sarcastic, behavior are extensions of subconscious disrespect and indifference of public social sentiment - akin to one that can basically do/say what they wish without social consequences.

Even though it was his obvious attempt at twisted humor.

Like tossing a banana to a monkey at the zoo, just for the jollies he gets out of feeling superior.

Other with an agenda will always spin it the other way though.

Good things, bad things - it's all quite nominal.
Any affect on everyday society at large are quite distant, life and movement remains pretty much the same as it always has been - regardless of institutional power structure.

It's the random and sensational attention that drives some to believe that there is differences/changes here or there.....

Remembering that Thailand has been under a benign oligarchical system for ages - cycling from absolute or militarism or Thai fashioned civilian democracy or whatever.....it's all the same. And the general social order remains so.

Oh, thanks for clearing that up then. I look forward to the US President, British Royalty etc replicating such jolly hi-jinx. Guess our people lack this refined sense of buffoonery.

With it's stellar annual growth of less than 1%, plummeting tourism revenue, and basically every business operator telling me they are suffering, I remain open minded about that fact. It's nice to be assured that Thailand is happy however.

Double Post, so Merry Xmas all.

I wonder how prayuth would feel and react if somebody joking tossed a banana at him. How does banana tossing fit into his 12 precepts that are hanging on classroom walls? (are they actually being forced into classrooms???)

Correct. Although, you missed out his massive insecurities that underlie this 'personality'...

Your appreciation of Thai society, the army cadre and what passes for a rule of law suggests you may well be the sort of person who would be seriously interested in getting into the second phase of my Yala condominium time share venture.

As a person evidently of high net worth value and who has a finger on the pulse of his didgeridoo I should imagine you would wish to carpe diem and get in on the ground floor ( well, when it's built, that is ).

Let me know and I'll get my legal reps., Messrs. Sue, Grabbit & Runne, draw up a contract which will also qualify you as a sponsor in my artificial ski slope project in Mogadishu.

It was only a banana. When Thais get really upset they throw durians. The ultimate put down, it's a durian thrown at ones head, I heard.
