Medical fee coverage for road accident victims increased to 30,000 baht

The cabinet on Tuesday approved the Finance Ministry’s draft ministerial regulation seeking to increase the basic medical fee coverage for a patient from road accident from 15,000 baht to 30,000 baht.

The increased medical coverage fee was meant to protect consumers in case of road accidents to ensure that they will be able to receive medical treatment. Also, the 15,000 baht coverage fee was deemed to be unrealistic and not enough to cover basic medical treatment.

Government deputy spokesman Colonel SansernKaewkamnerd said that the new medical fee coverage would become effective as of December 26.

He explained that a patient from a road accident would not be required to pay medical fee for the first 30,000 baht because the hospital would receive the payment from the road accident victims protection fund.

And if the medical expenses are in excess of 30,000 baht, the amount can be redeemed by a hospital from the National Health Security Office.

My BIL who Thai was involved in a Accident not his fault.
His first day in hospital cost him 106,895.00 baht.
So that 30,000.00 baht is a little short.

Now you know why those ambulance gangs virtually kill each other over who "gets" the accident.
Virtually? They actually did have a shooting between 2 rival ambulance crews in Bangkok about 2 weeks back.

If I can still move, I'll take my chances at a Government run hospital.
