Dropping hilltop temperatures attract tourist visits

Several hilltop tourist destinations in the North are now attracting large number of visitors at the weekend with a common goal to experience the freezing temperatures, and see the flower frosts phenomenon.

Among the popular hilltop destinations where such natural phenomenon could be felt is Jae Sorn national park in Lampang province.

The park is filled with large number of visitors coming to camp in at weekend, and weekdays with their own tents.

Average temperature is now at 15 degrees Celsius.

Not only the cold spell which visitors could experience, there are also hot springs in the park where the water temperature was hot enough to boil eggs for breakfast.

Another popular hilltop tourist destination is Phu Hin Rongkla national park in Nakhon Thai district of Phitsanulok province.

The park is 1,400 metres above mean sea level.

Although no flower frosts occurred here during the past weekends, but the dropping temperatures of below 10 degrees Celsius coupling with beautiful sceneries in the winter is a magnet to draw crowds of visitors to the park.

But authorities forecast flower frosts to happen when the new round of cold spell from China approaches the park end if the month which will see the temperatures dropping a further 1-3 degrees.

The park recorded the lowest temperature of minus three degrees Celsius on January 23 this year with large areas with trees and grasses turning to flower frosts.

Phayao province is also decorating roads with flowers in preparation for its annual flowers and fireworks festival from December 25-January 5 to promote tourism.
