BANGKOK – Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha said the arrest of several high ranking police officers would serve as catalyst to the reform of the Royal Thai Police.
He said the Royal Thai Police commissioner has already included several measures to prevent and eradicate bribery in his reform plan.

The prime minister also said that the public should not assume the whole police officers to be bad or crooked as the crimes were committed by only one group of police officers.
He said as for legal action to take, all those found to be involved would be punished by the law, even if they were high ranking officers.

He also said if further investigation implicated to more officers, they would also be arrested.
Meanwhile Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) chief says the assets seized from the houses of the former Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) commissioners were derived from money laundering in his linkage with illegal activities involving casino, oil smuggling and bribery..

AMLO secretary-general Pol Col Sihanart Prayoonrat said there are more than 10,000 items of assets that have been confiscated from the residence of former CIB commissioner, Police Lieutenant General Pongpat Chayaphan.

They included archaeological objects, paintings, luxury vehicles, and gold bars, all of which have not yet been assessed for their estimated values, he said.

He said the assets seized have proven that the ex CIB chief violated the anti-money laundering laws.

He said AMLO is now investigating to find out who is or are his nominees for money laundering.

But he said initial information showed that the former CIB head is linked to oil smuggling and casino operations.

He was found to have close connection with an influential oil smuggler in the Thai south, Sahachai Jiarasermsin or ‘Sia Joe’ who was also believed to have financed insurgency in the south.

It was believed that the former CB chief was on the top of the oil smuggling network in the South.

Could be a military court in which case I think we can assume that guilt is sufficiently proven already.
