Istanbul: A Thai woman was yesterday sentenced to 10 years in jail by a Turkish court for cocaine smuggling.

Porntiwa Salarat, 23, who was travelling on a flight from Brazil to Vietnam, was arrested in the transit lounge at Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul on June 14.

Turkish authorities said they stopped Porntiwa because she was acting suspiciously. A search of her luggage uncovered more than a kilogramme of cocaine, they said.

Porntiwa told police she went to Brazil on holiday with an African boyfriend who later arranged for her to fly to Vietnam. She said she did not know drugs were in her bag. The judge initially sentenced Porntiwa to 12 years in jail but reduced the term to 10 years because of her good behaviour while in custody.

Something tells me she's going to age more than 10 years doing time in her Turkish accommodation.

I'm sure that nice African boyfriend who bought her a flight to Vietnam will take care of her whilst she is inside !
