Aussie Tourist Mauled By Tiger At Phuket Park

Aussie Tourist Mauled by Tiger at Phuket Park, Say Other Visitors

    Phuketwan
    October 22, 2014

A visitor to the Tiger Kingdom animal attraction on Phuket was mauled by a tiger yesterday, Phuketwan has confirmed.

The man is understood to be an Australian in his 50s who survived the attack but required emergency treatment at a Phuket hospital.

Another Australian tourist who was close when the incident occurred said the mauling took place in a cage at the tourist attraction.

Visitors to Tiger Kingdom can pet the animals safely provided they follow strict rules. Tourists have the option of choosing the size of the tigers in the cage they enter.

The Australian who was nearby told other guests at a Patong hotel last night that the attack came suddenly and unexpectedly.

''Other animals in the enclosure showed an interest in what was going on,'' he said. ''The attendants quickly reacted and dragged the mauled man out.

''There was quite a lot of blood.''

Tiger Kingdom did not respond to calls from Phuketwan today. Managers were in a meeting, a reporter was told.

The tiger should be invited into the manager's meeting, unrestrained, to give its side of the story.

They'll blame a Burmese Tiger probably.

Fukcing "pet a tiger" zoos are seemingly becoming more popular here, thanks to those lovely Chinese and Russian tourists. Too bad it was an Aussie, but no sympathy here.

What kind of total idiot goes into a cage to pet a tiger? No sympathy at all.

    Probably goes something like:

The Tiger told police that he and two companions were on Walking Street when they were approached by Thai men who convinced them they could see sexy dance shows at the zoo for 500 baht each. After entering the zoo, they found there were no naked girls on the stage as they had been promised. They complained that they had been deceived.

Always been my number 1 hate sticking wild animals in cages Elephants in Sukhumvit.
They belong in the wild any tourist visiting a country thinking it okay to get your picture taken in a cage with a drugged up wild animals deserves a mauling.

Obviously, and it didn't feel like a do-over of the traumatic experience.

I Whacked the Tiger As It Mauled Me, Says Aussie Tourist

    Phuketwan
    October 22, 2014
By Alan Morison and Chutima Sidasathian

Australian truck driver Paul Goudie has quite a story to tell about his Phuket holiday. ''I was mauled by a tiger,'' he said from his hospital bed today. The 49-year-old from near Melbourne was relaxed about the incident, possibly because morphine was killing the pain.

He loves tigers, and he has a tiger tattoo on his left shoulder to prove it. One tiger at the Tiger Kingdom tourist park on Phuket did not love him yesterday, though, when he sustained bites to both legs and his stomach.

His son Jake was in the family holiday group that went to the facility in central Phuket yesterday, but like most of the others, did not venture into the cage with the tigers. His father did. ''We did everything as the park people advised,'' Paul said today from his bed. ''I am not sure why it bit me. ''When it did, I had no choice except to whack it in the face a couple of times.''

Jake was not aware what had happened until he heard his father's loud voice and knew something was up. ''It all happened very quickly,'' he said. ''Luckily, there was a doctor among the other tourists visiting Tiger Kingdom.'' Jake said the staff at the facility used a taser to subdue the tiger. His father was quickly on his way to a hospital in nearby Phuket City.

Paul said: ''The handler was with us the whole time. The tiger was 15 months old. I was patting him, Everything was fine. I just stood up to leave. 'He just lunged. That was it.

''There can be no blame attached to anyone,'' Jake said. ''People claimed my father must have run to trigger the tiger's response. 'But my dad has two steel pins in an ankle, so he never moves very fast. 'We all heard the taser go off. I heard him screaming 'Get it off me!'. And that's when I knew it was my Dad.''

There were five tigers in the cage and two of Mr Goudie's relatives in there with him when the holiday outing turned sour. It's thought that Mr Goudie may have seemed a tastier option than the chicken the tigers are usually fed.

The facility has been open on Phuket since July last year and there are other outlets in Thailand. Maulings are rare or at least seldom reported. Phuketwan got no help when reporters called the facility this morning and every effort was made at the hospital by a staff representative to stop us talking to Paul and Jake.

The Guodies were, however, keen to have the story told and keen to make the point that they did not blame Tiger Kingdom. They were ''absolutely fantastic,'' Paul said.

The family was on the fourth day of their holiday and has 11 more days on Phuket. With surgery required but no major damage to tissue or tendons, Paul Goudie hopes to be back on his feet by then. He may even be considering another tiger tattoo.

''I don't want anything to happen to the tiger,'' he said. ''I don't want it killed.'' The Goudies were told that the tiger involved in the mauling would be ''retired'' and not in contact with visitors again.

    Jesus Christ,

lucky the Tiger did not eat that stupid Aussie tosser as it would of choked on the fat fuk.

But seriously, I'm on the Tigers side, they must get pissed off with fat smelly white fuks getting into their personal space.

Anyway, Falang deserve to be mauled if they actually think a wild animal loves getting their photo taken 6 thousand times a day with a stupid human.

    Fuk the Falangs EH.

    Tiger one, falang none.

    Fair call that one.

Phuket Tiger Kingdom May Close Temporarily After Tourist Bitten

    Phuket News
    October 22, 2014
    By Saran Mitrarat

Tiger Kingdom is considering closing for one or two days after an Australian tourist was badly bitten by one of the tigers at the facility yesterday.

“Many staff are frightening after the accident happened, so we are now deciding whether to close Tiger Kingdom for one or two days to boost staff confidence,” general manager Kachane Jakkapark said this evening.

“It was [an] accident. The best thing we can do now is to give full support to the [injured] tourist,” he added.

This afternoon, Kathu District Chief Sayan Chaichanawong, acting on orders from Phuket Governor Nisit Jansomwong, led Thung Thong Police to visit the victim, 49-year-old Paul Goudie, in his room at Phuket International Hospital, where he is recovering from the attack.

Thung Thong Police superintendent, Col Thitirat Asakit told the press that Tiger Kingdom staff had been watching as Mr Goudie played with the tiger and had his photo taken with the big cat. “The staff were paying attention,” he added.

He said that the tiger bit Mr Goudie as he stood up. “Because his weight is over 119 kilograms, he can’t stand up easily, so staff were helping him to stand when the attack took place,” he explained.

He said that management thought the tiger might have believed Mr Goudie was attacking the staff, and that was why it had bitten him.

“The tiger may have felt protective towards the people who take care of it, so it bit him on the left calf. Mr Goudie has had 29 stitches to his wounds,” he added.

District Chief Sayan confirmed that Mr Goudie’s condition is improving, “He was able to talk with me and understood that it was an accident. He also promised me that he will visit Tiger Kingdom again the next time he is in Thailand,” he added.

Mr Sayan also displayed documents provided to him by Tiger Kingdom showing that the facility has the correct operating license issued by the Royal Forestry Department (RFD). Mr Kachane added, “We have to send our safety training record every year to the RFD.”

We want to boost staff confidence – Tiger Kingdom GM Kachane Jakkapark (right, with District Chief Sayan Chaichanawong.

It doesn't get any fairer than that...
