NLA passes bill on family violence

(BangkokPost.com) - National Legislative Assembly passed a bill on family violence on Thursday.

The bill punishes a person who commits violence in a family to face less than six-month imprisonment and to be fined no more than 6,000 baht, or both.

This is the first bill to protect family members from violence.

Family members have the responsibility to inform authorities of any violence act, either by phone, letter or emails. They will be protected after informed authorities.

The bill will be effective in 90 days after it is published in the government gazette.
